Our Newly Developed CNC 116 Gear Generator

The CNC 116 Gear Generator can be used for cutting hypoid, spiral and Zerol bevel pinions and gear members. This machine was original manufactured by The Gleason Works as a 116 Hypoid Rougher or Generator. The machine has been upgraded with a new GE Fanuc series 16MB Control system with AC Servos and motors, providing a machine with much easier operator interaction, increased reliability, faster set-up times, and a wide range of programmable cutting cycles.

The Gear Generator now has three CNC servo controlled axes. The first axis is for cradle rotation, upon which the cutter is mounted. The second axis is for the work spindle, upon which the gear blank is placed for cutting. The third axis is used for feeding the sliding base into the cutter. The gear train that used to synchronize the cradle cutter and work piece has been removed and replaced with an infinite variable electronic gear box that is used to coordinate the cutter and work piece movements. The cutting spindle is also under CNC control, providing precise control of the cutter RPM.
